Gene enlisted in the United States Marine Corps to serve his country following the September 11th attacks of 2001. After completing his tour during which he served in over twenty countries, Gene was awarded numerous medals and an honorable discharge for his service to America.

As a veteran, Gene knows the struggles and challenges which face those who have served their county. While strides have been made to improve the quality of care for veterans in Georgia, veterans consistently rank among the highest groups for unemployment, homelessness, and suicide rates. Gene finds these statistics unacceptable and seeks to reverse these trends.

Since his return to Georgia, Gene has dedicated the past four years to serving his fellow veterans as a friend, a mentor, and proponent for veterans care. He worked with local governments, American Legion halls, and civilians to host functions to commemorate our nation's heroes. As State Senator, Gene will continue to stand as an advocate for veterans and tirelessly work to serve those who have served our state and our nation.
